It is easy to follow old patterns- as a default setting almost- think of it like a well worn path in the woods- habit clears an area and the mind and body- which are often naturally lazy want to stay with the known even if it is not the best for your health.
It takes courage to change direction- and often it is uncomfortable at first- like a a new pair of shoes. Once broken in-that new path that pair of shoes- gets easier.
Novelty as direction is difficult for me or at least it used to be.
Alexander Technique was new (granted) a long time ago- it required an open mind and body & what was once new is now a familiar direction
